Steven Townsend Born in Lancashire in 1955, is known to many as a renowned painter of dogs and wild
animals in a natural landscape setting. Achieving the status of Fine Art Trade Guild
ARTIST OF THE YEAR in 1999. His work, published by Northern Editions, many prints
selling out as soon as they were released. Now eagerly sought after, they fetch
much higher prices on the secondary market.
This is
somewhat remarkable for someone who is self-taught and only took up painting in
his twenties after illness led him down that route. Many of his canine pieces
are set in the beautiful moorlands and mountains of the north where he loves to
walk and climb. The Lake District, Staffordshire Moorlands and North Yorks
Moors and Dales providing so much of his inspiration. He now concentrates on
capturing these wild, awe-inspiring, beautiful locations in his expansive
canvases, not only capturing the essence of the locations but the dramatic weather
encountered.
As with many artists he is also stimulated by music, amongst
his favourites are Mahler and Chopin, however he openly admits his strength in
his faith, with JTC (Jesus the Creator) located somewhere in every painting.
Never overtly, many people never even aware of that abbreviation’s presence.
An exceptional artist, we are very proud to showcase his
paintings here at Grimes House Gallery.
